One of the major achievements of Operation Countdown
Limited is the Operation Countdown Mobile Display Unit.
This is a unit equipped with thought provoking and
informative displays on a variety of road safety issues.
It is designed and used to promote road safety awareness
to the general public.
The unit is large enough for people to walk through and
is manned by Victoria Police from the Road Safety
Awareness and Information Unit.
The bus is a Mercedes Benz O 500 LE Low Entry Bus, and
is called the Operation Countdown Multi-Media Mobile
Display Vehicle. The $350,000 bus was provided by
DaimlerChrysler Australia/Pacific and turn into $750,000
Mobile Multimedia Display Vehicle. This was done by
Volgren Australia at there Dandenong workshops with
assistance variety companies under the banner of
Operation Countdown.
The Multi-Media Mobile Display Vehicle provides
community with an opportunity to learn and increase
their own safety on the roads. Road Safety message
inside the bus are projected via plasma screens, 4
information kiosks with computers and interactive LCD
touch screens, and static displays exploring the human,
vehicle and environment factors of road safety. Access
to the bus is via 2 low entry / exit access points.
Operation Countdown Multi-Media Mobile Display Vehicle
take the road safety message to the community of
Victoria via dozens of school and community fetes, fairs
and festivals, exhibitions, country field days and other
community groups. The vehicle is manned by Police
members from the Road Safety Awareness and Information
Unit will attend events with a road safety focus and
provide promotional material relating to road safety
issues.
