Booze buses now testing for drugs - Tue 12 December 2006

   


Victoria Police and the TAC today announced a joint effort to reduce the incidence of drug driving, unveiling the new Police Drug and Alcohol buses and a supporting public education campaign.

Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon today announced that Victoria Police booze buses were in the process of being converted to test drivers for both drugs and alcohol.



 


“Drug driving enforcement is being stepped up. Two new drug buses are already operating and a third will be on the road by Christmas,” said Ms Nixon.

Vehicle impoundment legislation - Thu 26 October 2006

   


Vehicle impoundment legislation, commonly known as ‘hoon legislation’ came into effective from 12.01 am, Saturday 1 July 2006.

Reminding motorists of the imminent legislation, Assistant Commissioner (Traffic) Noel Ashby said the aims were to enhance road safety.


“Primarily, this legislation aims to deter drivers from dangerous and anti-social driving behaviours,” he said.

Victoria’s new Graduated Licensing System - Thur 22 June 2006

   


The Victorian Government released it new Graduated Licensing System which will start in January 2007

Driving a car is one of the most dangerous things a young person will ever do. One third of the road toll results from crashes involving 18 to 25 year old drivers.

The new Graduated Licensing System will help to protect young and inexperienced drivers through the first few years of solo driving when they are at most risk.

Victoria Police launches its Road Policing Strategy - Mon 29 May 2006

   


The Victoria Police Road Policing Strategy was launched by Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon and Assistant Commissioner (Traffic & Transport) Noel Ashby on Monday 29th May 2006 at Telstra Dome.

The strategy changes the way in which Victorian roads are policed, aiming to reduce crime and preventable injuries.


Key changes include shifts in road policing responsibility from the Traffic & Transport Services Department (TTSD) to regional command, a restructure of traffic management resources and the commencement of road safety forums.
