Introduction
What is Operation Countdown?

From 1982 until 1990, Operation Countdown was an annual Police operation to highlight the importance of vehicle road-worthiness. On 1st July 1990 a program trust was established as trustee for Operation Countdown Limited. This company is limited by guarantee, does not have share capital and does not trade in its own right. The company was established as “an association of free enterprise and Victoria Police, dedicated to the maximisation of support for road safety awareness”.

Victoria Police, in accordance with the Victorian Government’s Road Safety Strategy ‘arrive alive’ aims to reduce the incidence, severity and cost to the community of road trauma. This strategy places great emphasis on participation from community groups and organisations, recognising that road trauma reduction is a shared responsibility.

The Board of Directors of Operation Countdown Limited consists of representatives of a variety of companies and senior Victorian Police. The company receives sponsorship and services and involvement from committed organisations that recognise their shared responsibility in this vital community issue. At the same time, Operation Countdown literally provides a vehicle for that commitment to be promoted to all Victorians.
